Structure and Features
The structure of the glossary of political jurisprudence is alphabetical, not thematic, and about 280 political or non-political words related to political issues have been explained [1]. According to the authors, the words of the book have been extracted from numerous sources of Sunni and Shiite jurisprudence (p. 16). In this book, following each entry, its lexical and idiomatic meaning, its origin and historical examples are stated, and the phonetics and English equivalents of the words are also given (p. 17). In this book, a number of words such as ijtihad and hoarding, are considered as political words due to their political weight and their essential role in the administration of the government and political and basic rights of the society although they have nothing to do with the concept of politics. (p. 17). Another feature of this book is providing explanatory resources under each word in the footnote. According to the authors, the purpose of compiling this book is to collect the words and terms of political jurisprudence collectively (p. 16).
Reviews
The book Glossary of Political Jurisprudence is criticized in several ways, which are mentioned in several cases:
- Lack of comprehensiveness in collecting the words of political jurisprudence Despite the claim of the authors to be traced in numerous sources of Sunni and Shiite jurisprudence, many words related to political issues that are examined in jurisprudence books and considered to be effective in political jurisprudence, but these words have not been included here. Among these words, we can refer to the right to vote and elections, majority vote, [2]separation of powers, [3] civil disobedience, [4] political participation, [5] maintaining the system, privacy,[6] governmental jurisprudence, etc. Even the term political jurisprudence is not explained.
- Failure to explain the relationship of words unrelated to political jurisprudence
In this book, there are a number of words unrelated to political issues, which according to the authors have political weight and role while the authors have not explained the alleged political effect and role of that word in explaining these words. Ijtihad, Sab-ul-Nabi, Mal-ul-Allah, Ghadir event, Nabte, Yum Al-Khamis, Nasi etc. are among these words.
- Explanation of common words along with specific words In this book, some common words are explained along with specific words. For example, the word law is explained in Islamic law while the law and legislative processes have been explained in detail in jurisprudence books. Furthermore, there is no need to include their definition in specific words.
- Failure to provide a precise definition of words
In some words, the authors have not provided a precise and comprehensive definition. For example, in the definition of democracy, people's presence in the political scene has been interpreted as the support of the leader of the Islamic community.
